ABOUT THE WEYERHAUSER KING COUNTY AQUATIC CENTER The world-class surroundings of the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center provided a quality atmosphere for the participants and fans. The Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center was built in April 1990 as the host facility for the 1990 Goodwill Games aquatic events. Built at a cost of $18.8 million, it was planned, designed and constructed through joint cooperation from both public and private sectors of the Puget Sound area.

The facility was designed by TRA Architects and built on land made available by the Weyerhaeuser Company. The facility was built in 21 months, has seating for 2,400 spectators, and features three pools.

The competition pool provides a 50-meter course of eight lanes. Each lane is nine feet wide. Two moveable bulkheads allow the pool to be configured for two 25-yard or two 25-meter courses. Water depth ranges from 9 1/2 feet to 10 feet. The diving tank is 25 yards wide and is 17 feet deep, providing seven lanes for continuous warm-up swimming throughout the Championships. The third pool, the Security Pacific Recreation Pool, ranges from zero water depth to 3 feet. The recreation pool provided three additional 25-yard lanes for continuous warm-up during the Championships.

The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center has the most advanced time and date display board in the country. Information can be shown instantly to enhance spectator excitement as an event is in progress.
