          POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT    Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach

 

                RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position has primary responsibility of a nationally competitive diving program in the NCAA and Big Ten Conference.  The position reports to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.  The  responsibilities are as follows:

 

    1.           Coordinate, administer, and direct all aspects of the men’s and women’s diving programs.

    2.           Organize and coach pre-season, in-season, and post-season training, practice and competition for men’s and women’s diving.

    3.           Function as a valuable and integral part of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.

4.           Identify, evaluate, and recruit quality student-athletes.  Major responsibility in all phases of the recruitment process.

    5.           Prepare and adhere to budget recommendations.  Coordinate and/or assist with travel arrangements as directed.

    6.           Maintain a commitment to and responsibility for compliance with all rules and regulations of the University, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.

    7.           Work compatibly and cooperatively with staff and personnel of swimming and diving teams, athletic departments and Aquatic Center.

    8.           Assist in the planning, organization, and conduct of dual, conference, and national level swimming and diving meets.

    9.           Assist with the development of appropriate public relations, promotional, and fund-raising activities as necessary.

    10.         Other duties as assigned.

                 

                  QUALIFICATIONS:

                  1.                Bachelors degree required

                  2.                Five years of coaching highly competitive divers on springboard and platform, including dryland training and spotting techniques.

                  3.                Knowledge of NCAA rules.  Certification preferred.

                  4.                Demonstrated knowledge of the sport of diving.

                  5.                Valid U.S. Diving Safety Certification.

                  6.                Good organizational, communication, and public relations skills.

 

                TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:            100% time, 12-month annually renewable appointment

                                                                                beginning July 1, 2003.

                SALARY:                                              Commensurate with experience.
